In the Spring of 2004, the journey of the formation of the Douglas-Carroll-Paulding Counties Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. began with the chance reading of a flyer announcing a gathering of Delta women committed to serving western counties outside of Atlanta, Georgia.
Quickly through word of mouth and chance meetings of sorors in malls, churches, schools, medical facilities, etc., the interest group began to gain momentum. In January 2006, the group met with the Regional Director, Soror Cynthia Boyd and the North Georgia State Coordinator, Soror Sandra K. Horton to discuss the feasibility of forming a chapter to support Douglas, Carroll and Paulding counties. In addition, alumnae chapter representatives from Henry County, and knowledgeable sorors from East Point/College Park, and Marietta/Roswell provided guidance and support to the interest group.
The hub group or steering committee began with Tiffany Adkins Ringfield and Alberta Jones-Holmes. It later grew to include the following sorors who also brought their passion and commitment: Sharon D. Jones, Gean Beasley, Tekmekia Gilchrist, Anneliesa Finch, Joann Strange, Tiffany Linen, Stephanie Street and Suvess Ricks.
The interest group members quickly came together in support of the common goal – to establish an alumnae chapter to support the counties of Douglas, Carroll and Paulding. Sorors who were Members-At-Large, reclaimed sorors and those who were financially active with other established areas outside of the requested service area combined their talents to facilitate the establishment of the alumnae chapter. Through continued active involvement with alumnae chapters of Delta within metro Atlanta, informal gatherings as an interest group, and consistent email messages to reinforce the goal, the group continued to grow and move forward. The interest group gathered monthly to foster sisterhood, learning and partnership. The group actively participated in local community initiatives representing Delta (as individuals). Some of the areas of focus were Breast Cancer Awareness, AIDS Awareness, the NAACP, and Voter Registration. Interest group members also attended cultural events with the Cultural Arts Center and the Douglas County Connection as well as patronizing many new restaurants in the area as a group. During the holiday season, the interest group delivered teddy bears to sick children in area hospitals and Thanksgiving baskets to persons in need.
The interest group book club led by Sorors Shanay Davis and Sheena Travis-Bell helped foster sisterhood and provided some informal dialogue and self-discovery. A financial seminar hosted by Soror Anneliesa Finch provided new learning on fiscal responsibility to those who attended. The interest group presence was also visible at the Douglas County Child Abuse Rally. The interest group also collected toiletries for the victims of Hurricane Katrina through the local churches. The group also supported the metro Atlanta chapters’ activities like the arrival of the National Chaplain Vashti McKenzie as the guest Women’s Day speaker at Wheat Street Baptist Church in Atlanta.
The interest group demonstrated its commitment to Delta and proved to be up for the challenge. The sorors continued to communicate informally, participate in joint ventures with community agencies while supporting Metro Atlanta chapter initiatives. The interest group received official notification of the approval to establish a chapter supporting Douglas, Carroll and Paulding counties in March 2007.
The date, April 22, 2007, was set for the installment of the new alumnae chapter to continue the legacy of public service in Douglas, Carroll and Paulding counties in Georgia, building upon the legacy of service established by our 22 founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Welcome my sorors and friends,
I am Gean Lynette Beasley, President of the Douglas-Carroll-Paulding (DCP) Counties Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. On April 22, 2007, our dream to provide service to the citizens of Douglas, Carroll, and Paulding Counties was realized when 78 dedicated Sorors established the 990th chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
We are entering our fifth year of chartering and have made tremendous progress in such a short period of time. Delta Sigma Theta was founded on Christian Principles. Those principles transcend throughout DCP. We are a dynamic sisterhood of college-educated, progressive, committed women standing as a beacon of light providing public service to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Douglas, Carroll, and Paulding Counties.
It is my pleasure to serve as President for the 2011-2013 term. We are excitedly approaching our centennial. On January 13, 2013, our illustrious sisterhood will celebrate 100 years of public service. On January 13, 1913, there were twenty-two courageous young women on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC, who had the vision of sisterhood, scholarship, and service. Nearly 100 years later, we are still supporting that vision.
DCP is actively supporting our national theme : "Delta Sigma Theta- A Sisterhood Called To Serve: Transforming Lives, Impacting Communities". Some of our activities here at DCP include the following:
These are just a few of the activities we offer.
You are invited to attend our chapter meetings if you are a duly initiated member of Delta Sigma Theta and are visiting in the area. If you are looking for a local chapter to join, please know that you are welcome to join DCP - “The Place to Be”!
Thank you for taking the time to view our website. Please check back frequently because our website will provide you with information about the many activities we sponsor here at DCP to transform the lives of the citizens of Douglas, Carroll, and Paulding Counties and to make a tremendous impact on these communities.
Sincerely,
Gean L. Beasley
I was initiated into our dynamic sisterhood, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at Grambling State University, Grambling, Louisiana 41 years ago in 1970. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and a Masters of Arts Degree in Teaching (MAT) from Grambling. I am a retired science educator retiring from the Douglas County School System in 2009. I had the marvelous opportunity to teach in many parts of the world and to meet many, many Deltas from around the world. As President of Douglas-Carroll-Paulding Counties Alumnae Chapter, I take pride in being a charter member. I have lived in Douglas County since 1996 and have seen the need for progressive, college educated, and committed women who stand as beacons of light providing public service support to improve the quality of life for all of the citizens of Douglas, Carroll, and Paulding Counties. I am proud to serve as President of DCP, “The Place To Be.”
I was initiated into the sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1991 at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA - Alpha Tau Chapter.
I am honored to serve as Second Vice President of this wonderful chapter. As a practicing dentist, public service is dear to my heart. As a native Atlantan, I am aware of the need for effective programs in our community.
The implementation of programs through the sorority's Five Point Programmatic Thrust will ensure that local, regional and national issues are highlighted and addressed.
I was initiated into our illustrious sorority in 1995 at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA. It was through the Kappa Delta Chapter that I started my commitment to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Through the years I have served in various leadership roles such as Treasurer, Recording Secretary, charter member of DCP Alumnae, and have worked on numerous committees. I have also worked on the Regional Leadership Team as a member of the Technology, Information, and Communications Committee.
As the First Vice President I support the hard work and public service initiatives put forth by our chapter through our many programs, specifically those promoting the Five-Point Program Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on three basic principles: scholarship, public service, and sisterhood. These ideals have withstood the test of time and are exemplified through the many programs we sponsor.
Each undergraduate and alumnae chapter develops programs in reference to the needs of their communities. These public service programs are centered around Delta's Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development * Educational Development * Physical and Mental Health * Political Awareness and Involvement * International Awareness and Involvement .
